Design Process:
When I first started my research into the project I was starting to get this huge familiar feeling in my heart. It was the same feeling I got when I used to go to Disney World. All the massive and wondrous excitement a fair brings to a crowd and especially me as a person just really gets my excitement kick going! It was not long after when I realized that I was going to make my souvenirs into collectible pins, similar to the ones I use to LOVE collecting at Disney World. (I used these 3 specifically as a reference point.)
After some digging up, I decided to go with what I considered to be some staple landmarks of the fair: The Trylon Pylon and the sphere, the Lightning Bolt statue from General Electric, the Lady Light-Speed statue (totally made that name up), and of course the Parachute Drop ride. Each of the subject matter I chose was meant to be of different fields that were important to the fair's message about the future. Once I found some good reference photos, I started to Illustrate in a style that was very similar to the Disney Pins, starting with the metallic outline found throughout the entire design.
Once I had the general shape of my pins down and the basic illustration of the outlines roughly completed, I set out to make some designs that made sense. The challenge was to make them consistent to one another that made these, but make them seem like valuable, retro-futuristic collectibles. I decided to go with a monochrome blue because that was a color of intelligence. It seemed like a natural fit for a World Fair all about the future of man. Monochrome is pretty easy to work in and is my go to color scheme in general! Coming up with my own designs were more challenging than I thought mainly because I knew I had to include text into the pins. I wanted them all to be roughly about the same size and seem to be of the same set, but still make each one unique. I went though several different layers and iterations before I felt like I found something that I liked.

These were the completed pieces to technically fulfill the assignment. But I always imagined these would look much nicer if I made them look 3D.
3D Transformation Process:
From here I duplicated all my work and reflected them upside down. I then used the shape tool to create an ellipse, but used the gradient tool for the fill.
From here I used the gradient tool for the rest of the project to really just make the work pop!
